There is nothing new under the sun—but what about after the sun goes down? In the night, a boy uncovers a shocking secret. Urban souls wander in sleepless disquiet. A woman “goes to sea,” while a man dives into dark waters to catch baby eels. Some secretly protect humankind, some hope to change the world before dawn. Violence hides in the shadows, while others unite to speak out for those who’ve lost their voice. Following the success of our first installment, Giloo proudly presents the second wave of Taiwan Shorts Showdown—six gripping short films that reveal what stirs in the dark. Be warned: even in the night, the gods are watching.
Good Times, Bad Times, Lazy Times
In an age of endless watching, how do we deal with distraction overload? Too exhausted after work? These films are short enough not to test your patience. Some are early works by acclaimed directors; all are sharp, rich, and full of surprises. Fine, I admit it—I also put them here simply because I love them. They’ll leave you wanting to hit replay. You may need to be jolted by them one more time before you’re ready to move on.
提案導演專訪｜《水底故事》陳子雲、《浮光》朱凱濙、《Hold That Pose For Me》胡文釗
Giloo Fest 2323 眾籌提案大會，向全球華語創作者徵件，收到來自香港、中國、馬來西亞到北美等地的 343 組創作提案，經由初選，選出「劇情片組」及「紀錄片組」各 10 組的入圍名單。這 20 組的新銳導演團隊，皆以個人經驗淬鍊出的獨有視角，述說貼近生命的故事，關注題材多元且珍貴，每一創作提案皆由私密情感中刻出時代意義的痕跡。Gioo特別邀請影評人專訪入圍者的創作想法。本文由影評人彭紹宇採訪劇情片入圍作品《水底故事》導演陳子雲、《浮光》導演朱凱濙，以及紀錄片組《Hold That Pose For Me》導演胡文釗。
10月焦點人物｜王宏恩：不一樣，造就了世界共同的美麗
睽違 22 年，曾以族語創作拿下金曲獎的布農歌手王宏恩再次發行族語創作專輯，在《一起我們 Muskun kata》這張作品中，他改編了許多布農古調詩歌，還特地前往崁頂部落拜訪長老，向他們請益古調詩歌的唱法、合聲和改編，並以同名紀錄片記下這段歷程。Giloo紀實影音邀請王宏恩在全新節目「Giloo Podcast」獻聲，與我們分享拍攝《一起我們 Muskun kata》過程中的趣事點滴，回顧出道以來的創作心路。
乾扁夢想與生命本質的對話——阮鳳儀《姊姊》
雖都有自傳性質，但阮鳳儀的短片《姊姊》較之後的《美國女孩》還來得鋒利些，純粹以自己身為「姊姊」的視角來敘事，充滿了青春的擦撞刺痛，別人看上去亮晶晶的青春期，對本人來說其實多少是充滿著稜角與內在痛感的。
活在化學工廠裡的童話——《豬》
短片因時長較沒有國片一般對悲傷耽溺的問題，因此《豬》的底層悲歌很收斂很暗湧，反而能顯出一些回甘底蘊。此片的視角放得剛好，是生命的迴圈、是無喜無悲的求生，頗有著中國作家余華、蕭紅作品中生生死死是來不及掉淚的真實。
